Brian Hie
Brian Hie is an Assistant Professor of Chemical Engineering at Stanford University, the Dieter Schwarz Foundation Stanford Data Science Faculty Fellow, and an Innovation Investigator at Arc Institute. He supervises the Laboratory of Evolutionary Design, which conducts research at the intersection of biology and machine learning. He was previously a Stanford Science Fellow in the Stanford University School of Medicine and a researcher at Meta AI. He completed his Ph.D. at MIT CSAIL in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and was an undergraduate in Computer Science at Stanford University.
AI2050 Project
Many important problems in human health, agriculture, and sustainability require understanding and engineering biology. Hie’s project is developing a high-level programming language to control an AI system with the goal of making biological engineering much easier and more predictable. This AI algorithm will enable researchers to design very complicated systems without a lot of trial and error, enabling more efficient and safer biological experiments.
