Angelina Wang is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Information Science at Cornell University and at Cornell Tech. Her research is on responsible AI, with a particular interest in fairness, evaluation, and societal impacts. Previously she did her postdoc at Stanford University, received her PhD in computer science from Princeton University, and BS from UC Berkeley.
AI2050 Project
Most AI systems are designed and tested as if they operate in a vacuum, evaluated on isolated, one-off exchanges. But in reality, people interact with AI repeatedly, creatively, and often collectively, sharing prompts and strategies across online communities. These interaction patterns reshape how AI systems behave over time. For example, problems like sycophancy or psychosis often do not appear in single-turn testing, but emerge through sustained use. Wang’s project studies these long-term, community-driven dynamics to build safeguards against the risks that occur, and design interventions to cultivate the benefits.
