Juan Carlos Perdomo
Juan Carlos Perdomo is an assistant professor of computer science and data science at NYU. His research focuses on the foundations of machine learning systems that make predictions or decisions about people. He earned his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from UC Berkeley and did his postdoc at Harvard and MIT. His work has been recognized by an Outstanding Paper Award at ICML 2025.
AI2050 Project
Every day, public institutions decide who gets access to scarce resources: which patients are screened by a doctor, which students receive extra tutoring, which unemployed workers are matched to job training. These decisions shape the quality of life for millions, and institutions are increasingly using AI to make them. But the formal foundations for doing this reliably and responsibly are still missing. Perdomo’s project develops those foundations — building the theoretical tools and practical frameworks that ensure AI-assisted allocation systems are efficient, fair, and trustworthy — and translates them into real deployments with partner government agencies.
